Bouchercon 2011

I worked at Bouchercon 2011 this week. To see so many mystery writers in one place was simply overwhelming to me. I didn't know which way to turn. Finally, ended up in a session with Charlaine Harris, author of the Sookie Stackhouse series. "True Blood" is based on her vampire novels.

My favorite moment was when Charlaine was asked about the difference between mystery conventions, fantasy conventions and comic cons since her success has resulted in being invited to all three. Her reply, "Well, the primary difference is none of you are painted blue. And, y'all have on all your clothes." The audience roared with laughter.

On a sad note, it looks like she'll be ending her Sookie series at book 13. This only leaves two more books to wrap up some of the story lines.  Some of them will be left for the reader to speculate about and discuss with other fans for years.

If Bouchercon ever comes back to St Louis, I think I'll vacation there. I would be more organized and have a game plan to meet more of my favorite authors...and of course, get more autographed books.
