We've been trying to check out a new donut shop here in St. Louis, Mo for quite some time. It seemed like something always interfered with our plans. Prior commitments, sickness, or weather kept us from making the trek to Maplewood to see what all the buxx was about and whether or not the travel time was worth it.
After all, we lived less than half a mile from a pretty good bakery.
Last night we tried to make it. We got there and the line was about 30 to 40 people long. It stretched out the door and down the street a ways. Added to that was there were no parking spaces readily available so we decided to make it a breakfast stop today. The wait was worth it. Fantastic creations...a little more expensive than some places but we thought for the quality the prices were reasonable.
Chris and I ordered 7...took them home with us and cut them in half and went into a sugar coma nirvana state for the rest of the day. We didn't eat all of them at one time...but sampled them off and on during the day until they were gone. We tried:
- Traditional chocolate longjohn- It was one of the best I've ever eaten.
- Gooey Butter Donut - A play on Gooey Butter Cake
- Heath Donut
- Blueberry Cheesecake
- Pronut- Chocolate and Peanut Butter. It contains 22 grams of protein.
- Strange Bacon- WOW!!!!
- Strawberry Chortcake Donut.
So if you're a donut lover, stop by Strange Donuts for some of the best and creative donuts you'll ever try.
