President's Day Lunch-Dressel's Public House

As I've stated before, both of us are big fans of the Food Network Show, "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" featuring Guy Fieri. Triple D for short. We like to visit places that have been featured and see if we agree with Guy's assessment of the food. For President's Day, we went to Dressel's Public House in the Central West End of St. Louis, MO.
The decor is more upscale than his usual picks. The oak tables were definitely more high end than you usually find in a diner. The server arrived to take our orders in a timely fashion. We ordered the same dishes Guy tried which were their signature appetizer, the Dressel's pretzel, the Truffled Grilled Cheese, and the Porchetta Louie sandwich with homemade chips.

We were disappointed to find that they were out of the pretzel. We didn't fully buy our servers explanation of why. We arrived there shortly after 12 noon...If a dish is on lunch menu, it should be available at that time. Our meal started off a disappointing note.

Now for the high notes...The Truffled Grill Cheese sandwich is the richest, most decadent, and best grilled cheese either one of us have tasted. It was fine by itself...but dipped into the tomato bisque made it a memorable experience. The downside was there was nothing to cut that richness because it isn't served with any sides.

The Porchetta Louie was delicious. It's almost too much to handle with the baguette. I ate it as like an open faced sandwich. I'm not overly fond of Peperoncinis...that allowed me to eat around them...still getting some of the heat from it. The pork was tender and well seasoned.

The price might be a little on the high side for lunch. Because of her gastric bypass, Chris can't eat and drink at the same time. I had a diet coke. The price with tip ran about $33.00. Overall, it was a wonderful meal.

If you're ever on a DDD adventure, this place should be on your list to visit.
